Edit: I posted this in the wrong board by mistake, sorry. Please move this to the Japan-only board.
Zok Zok Heroes is an interesting Game Boy Color game by Media Factory that was based on Japanese morphing superheroes. Due to its focus on infrared communications, it is unplayable on Game Boy Advance.
There were apparently 72 different forms to collect, and an interesting feature about the game is that choosing what form to use in battle can be done by infrared motion controls (and moving the Game Boy Color in specific ways gives specific transformations).
Another game with monsters that is unplayable on Game Boy Advance is Chee-Chai Alien. Chee-Chai Alien was developed by Creatures who are known for holding part of the copyright to the Pokémon franchise.
Chaliens had to be collected by pointing a Game Boy Color at artificial light sources and getting a signal based on infrared reception. There is a focus on collection in Chee-Chai Alien, but you can play minigames and many of the Chalien's minigames aren't the "Kuru Kuru Battle" one (a battle game where you must stop a cursor that constantly changes on an action like attacking or being attacked).

Yeah. I like unique games with cool features not seen in other games, and I think games with innovative technical features like this are especially interesting. ^^ Another example is the Game Boy Pocket Sonar (which came with a minigame) and how it can be used to detect fish in real life.

I like more unique games as well. They often stand out. Granted some times unique gimmics don't work but still
Unique gimmicks reminded me of a certain (non mon game tho) gameboy Advance game called Boktai. The games used real solar energy as part of its game mechanic and were action/adventure/RPG games about a boy trying to stop vampires from taking over the world. I actually owned the second game but never got far in it
